GOVERNMENT TO FULFILL EVERY PROMISE TO THE PEOPLE: CM

Imphal, March 25, 2018 (DIPR): Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh said that the government is committed to execute every promise that the government made so far and would not give any false promises to the people of the State. This was stated by him at the inauguration of the Marjing Polo Complex at Heingang, Imphal East today.

Speaking as Chief Guest of the function, Chief Minister said that we, politicians have the bounden duty to provide quality of life to the citizens of the State, he added. We should not do politics which would hamper the developmental process in the State. He continued that the only reason for the underdevelopment of Manipur was the non-transparency in the governance system in the state.

Chief Minister stressed that since the installation of the new government in the State, the government has given its priority to improve the lives of the people of the State by initiating new human oriented schemes such CMHT, CMST etc. He mentioned that within such short period, the new government has minimised the hill-valley divide and ethnic tensions in the State. Law and order situation of the State has improved drastically in the last one year, he mentioned. Thus we are heading towards a better Manipur, he added. To avoid flash floods during monsoon season, the government has started dredging work along the river beds in the Imphal area. The Centre has sanctioned a sum of Rs 130 crores to repair and restore damaged infrastructures due to floods and landslides in Manipur that occurred last year.

Mentioning that the game of ‘Modern Polo’ was originated from Manipur, Chief Minister said that a 120-ft. high statue of a pony would be erected at the top of the Marjing Hill under the integrated Mega Tourist Circuit. A ropeway would be constructed from Marjing Hills to Langol Hills. A Pologround would be constructed at the hillock of Marjing, he added. He mentioned that a sum of Rs 15 crores has already been sanctioned for the construction of ‘Imphal View’ tower at Langol Hills. Such tower would provide an opportunity to gaze the beautiful scenery of the Imphal area to the tourists, he added. Cable car service would be made available from Marjing Hill to Kangla to attract more tourists in the region. Such initiatives of the new government would provide employment opportunities to the unemployed youths and people of the State, he added.

Chairman of Tourism Corporation of Manipur Limited Dr. Sapam Ranjan said that Heingang area has great opportunity to become a prominent tourist destination in the State. He maintained that the entire stakeholders such as government, people and media have a role to play to boost the tourism sector in the State, he added. Among these, media would play a pivotal role to promote the positive image of the State to the outside world, he added. He stressed that the present government is working relentlessly to bring equal development in every sector for the welfare of the State. He appealed the people to make and develop Manipur a prominent tourist destination in the country.

Later, Chief Minister inspected the construction site at top of Marjing hill where the statue of the Pony would be erected. He directed the officials to complete the construction by August this year.

It may be mentioned that the development of Marjing Polo Complex at Heingang was taken up with the fund from the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India under Central Financial Asistance in 2009. The total sanctioned amount was Rs. 263.19 lakhs.
